Common questions
Japan MFN plus the forced-labor duty reaches 12.5% for non-exempt goods. Higher MFN is retained; specified products are exempt. These rules follow where the item was manufactured, not where the shop is located. The selected representative product and its exemptions determine the estimate; confirm classification for your actual item.
No. A shop in Japan can sell goods manufactured elsewhere. “Shipped from” describes the dispatch country; “made in” selects the manufacturing-origin rules. Ask the seller if you do not know the origin. The calculator does not substitute the shop’s address for it.
This calculator starts with a goods-only price and any required valuation additions. Identifiable actual international freight supported by carrier or forwarder evidence is excluded from customs value, but stays in landed cost. An estimated freight amount is not enough to establish that exclusion.
UPS, FedEx, DHL and formal-entry broker or bond costs depend on the shipment and service. Enter a carrier/broker fee quote that excludes duty and government fees already shown. Until then, the result is a known subtotal rather than a complete bill or a cheapest-carrier recommendation.
Rules are verified through 2026-10-02, for US entry dates 2026-07-24 through 2026-10-02. Each category selects a representative HTS product. Other materials, classifications, preferential claims or later entry dates need a fresh check. CBP determines the final charges.
